The particular interest in Albergo Diffuso derives precisely from the fact that it is an entirely Italian idea and model, which has now been exported and cloned all over the world, up to Japan 15 . Currently it has again attracted attention to itself, since precisely in this period, characterized by the presence of the Covid-19 pandemic, several voices have been raised to enhance the model, as an example of safe receptivity to avoid contagion 16 . The pandemic has changed the traveller's priority order, and Albergo Diffuso can be an ideal choice in many respects: «The villages don't know the crowd except on rare occasions of festivals or parties, and they are wonderfully integrated into the landscape: they guarantee space, contact with nature and safety, three essential needs of post-Covid demand» 17 . So, what is this Albergo Diffuso ? We can define it as an innovative model of sustainable tourism, oriented toward revitalization and recovery of the country’s existing heritage. We have seen that innovation and sustainability are today the drivers of development, and in particular, of tourism development.
