1212 COLLECTIVE COMMENTARY ABOUT THE NEW PACKAGE TRAVEL DIRECTIVE should have been given enhanced protection in respect of travel occurring after 1 July 2018 or merely booked after that date. This is disappointing; these issues are important and will inform the domestic implementation of the EU’s intention to provide consumers with enhanced protection for some considerable time to come. Traders and travellers alike have a reasonable expectation that their government will at least consider these matters carefully prior to legislating, but the timeframe for consultation in this instance simply did not allow for an appropriately reasoned discussion to take place. It is to be hoped that the UK government makes good on its promises to reconsider these issues sooner rather than later.
