THE DATE OF ENTRY INTO FORCE The Directive contains a commencement date as it states that it “shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union” . Therefore, and bearing in mind that the Directive was published on the 11 December 2015, it came into force on 31 December 2015 and as from this date became legally binding on Member States.
