In 1980, Law 22.351 was passed, replacing the system in force until then, centred on Law Nr. 12.103, creating the National Parks Administration (APN, until then called National Parks Directorate), a public body in charge of maintaining the National System of Protected Areas, focused on the conservation of the biological diversity and the cultural resources of the country. A year later, in 1981 some attractions of our country – many of them mentioned in the previous chapter – were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Argentina, given its great diversity of climates, landscapes and culture has a lot of potential, being able to offer natural and cultural attractions of the highest level and recognized worldwide. As can be seen, it is a country that is doing an arduous job in preserving the environment, the efforts can be linked to sustainable tourism, since the conservation of its natural areas is one of the greatest competitive advantages in terms of tourism. Our National Parks have a growing number of visitors, as they are places that have unique attractions worthy of being known, thanks to its beauty, majesty and grandeur. Without going any further, in the month of April of 2018, 217.4 thousand non-resident tourist arrivals in Argentina were estimated, with a year-to-year increase of 9.0%. In the year-to-date from January to April, it reached 849.4 thousand non-resident tourist arrivals and a growth of 6.1% was registered. 3 III.
