6 Figure 5: Tourism intensity (2019) 7 In 2019, there were 19.6 million tourist arrivals and 91.2 million tourist nights recorded in commercial accommodation establishments. Compared to 2018, there was an increase in tourist arrivals of 4.8% and an increase in tourist nights of 1.8%. Domestic tourists realised 2.2 million arrivals and 7.1 million nights, which is an increase in tourist arrivals of 9.4% and in tourist nights of 9.6%, as compared to 2018. Foreign tourists realised 17.4 million arrivals and 84.1 million nights, which is 4.3% more arrivals and 1.2% more nights than in 2018. The arrivals (41 %) ranked first, followed by overnights (49 %) in private rooms 8 . 7 Graph retrieved from Eurostat: Tourism statistics - annual results for the accommodation sector, October 2020. 8 In the total number of bed places in 2019, 61.3% were bed places in holiday or other short-stay accommodation establishments, while in hotels and similar types of accommodation establishments, there were only 6.1 per cent of bed places. Most hotels and similar accommodation establishments had less than 25 rooms (45.1 per cent), i.e. from 25 to 99 rooms (30.7 per cent).
