424 DERECHO DEL TURISMO EN LAS AMÉRICAS most critical pieces of legislation in themanagement structuring and development of tourism in the country. 5. TOURISM FUTURE In the development of tourism, The Bahamas, through its legislation, has demonstrated success in evaluating the situation of the day, in addressing critical issues and in capitalising on relevant trends. With the projected 1.8 billion international tourist arrivals forecasted by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for 2030, the future opportunity the growth of tourism in The Bahamas looks optimistic. According to the UNWTO, however, continued tourism development must benefit every member of the host communities, while supporting the United Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the first instance, future legislation for tourism development in The Bahamas should, therefore, set the country on the part to maximise the involvement of the people of The Bahamas in tourism decision‑making and ownership and, by extension, in effectively sharing the benefits of tourism on a widespread basis. In the second instance, tourism legislation must address the issue of climate change and disaster risk resilience for the sector. The forecast is that disasters by natural hazards will continue to hit the region on an increasingly frequent and more intensive basis because of climate change (CC) (Review, 2019). In fact, in September 2019, the North‑Western Bahamas, mainly Abaco and Grand Bahama, was hit by Hurricane Dorian, which was the most powerful tropical cyclones on record to strike the country. Therefore additional priority should be placed on the country’s resilience and disaster management agenda for the tourism sector and where possible suitable legislation should be directed in the regard. 6.
