This allowed a level of tourism promotion and development that had not been seen previously with results that greatly and positively impacted the economic development of the country – tourism today is the single most important industry in The Bahamas. The chapter further notes that currently global attention is on the 2030 Agenda, in which focus is placed on achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While the future looks bright for The Bahamas, the country has recognised that the benefits of tourism must effectively spread to the communities and consequently to every member of the Bahamian society. The opportunity is, therefore, opened for The Bahamas to develop suitable legislation to not only enable the sector to support mitigation against climate change and build effective resiliency to disaster and other risks, but also ensure that the local population in every community effectively engaged, involved in and benefits from continued tourism development. The future for tourism is bright, and it is anticipated that the government of The Bahamas, as it has done in the past, will embrace the opportunities available and develop the appropriate and necessary legislation.
