The Legislation which Regulates the Tourism Industry in Barbados Ministry of Tourism and International Transport of Barbados Introduction; 1. Tourism Development Act (TDA), Cap. 341; 2. Duties, Taxes and Other Payments (Exemptions), Cap. 67B; 3.TourismAccommodation (Classification, Licensing and Registration) Act, 2019; 4. Special Development Act, Cap. 237A; 5. Shipping Incentives Act, Cap. 90A. INTRODUCTION There are several pieces of legislation which regulate the tourism industry in Barbados. These pieces of legislation seek to set standards by which the industry is regulated and also to encourage tourism development by offering concessions to the various sub‑sectors which make up the industry. 1. TOURISM DEVELOPMENT ACT (TDA), CAP. 341 Administered by the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, the TDA seeks to encourage the development of high‑quality products and services at all levels of the tourism industry by providing assistance to approved tourism establishments. This piece of legislation offers concessions not only to hotel owners/operators but also to current and potential owners/operators of restaurants, villas, attractions, sports and recreational facilities, medical tourism and any other project which the Minister of Tourism and International Transport considers to be a tourism project.
