Sustainable Tourism Law

256 SUSTAINABLE TOURISM LAW formation of further new policies to enhance the betterment of sustainable impact and promote a better environment in an area where tourists represent a percentage of daily users. CONCLUSIONS It could be concluded that whereas in Malta, albeit scattered amongst various legislations, sustainable issues in the hotel/accommodation industry are being addressed, this may be contrasted with developing countries, where legislation may not necessarily be so advanced, and not only tourism may still be growing and attracting new developments, but also tourism policy, strategy or a master plan that may not necessarily include sustainable advantages. These laudable objectives could be achieved should the appointed Ministry for Tourism be well equipped with the necessary qualified and skilled personnel to ensure that tourism growth in the hotel/accommodation sector would be sustainably viable. This would also mean involving the stakeholders of the hotel industry to contribute thereto, not just through the appropriate financing, but also by becoming an integral part of the tourism planning, development and management. In this way, the government could work in unison with the industry’s stakeholders. Consequently, one may conclude that it is only through adequate legislation, appropriate regulations and clear guidelines that it is possible to assist in controlling and steering tourism development in the right direction of respecting and being sensitive to sustainable incentives in the industry.
