674 SUSTAINABLE TOURISM LAW The sustainability criteria must be under permanent review and study. Global trends vary. The sustainable development of tourism requires the informed participation of all relevant actors, as well as firm political leadership to achieve a wide collaboration and consensus. The achievement of sustainable tourism is a continuous process and requires constant monitoring of impacts to introduce the necessary preventive or corrective measures. Sustainable tourism must also induce a high level of satisfaction in tourists and represent a significant experience for them, making them more aware of the problems linked to sustainability and the promotion of sustainable tourism practices. Tourism continues to transform as a result of environmental pressures. We are now responsible for creating an industry that’s more efficient at saving energy and natural resources, introducing more sustainability and solidarity. Issues such as innovation and the renewal of local economies should be highlighted, but they should also be seen in the general framework and appeal to indicators that are not only questioned by the macro aspects of development, but also consider what is happening in the communities. Aspects such as infrastructure costs for tourism development, inflation, seasonality and excessive dependence on tourism at the expense of other alternative economic activities, which are sometimes closely related to the culture of the place, must be clearly analysed. Since you have to think globally to be able to act locally, alliances at a national and international level with all the actors, public, private and NGO’s must be generated. In order to coordinate efforts, we must have a unity of strategic alliances that allow us to take advantage of the actions and achievements of other institutions, create synergies, give and receive international cooperation, bring consensus issues to international forums and participate actively in all the training processes for sustainability at national and international levels. Joint work with protected areas, with entities and projects for Payment for Environmental Services, with organizations related to corporate social responsibility, with the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research Centres, with the European Union, UNWTO, UN, SICA, APEC, FEALAC, in short, all entities and organizations that help us position ourselves and be at the forefront of knowledge.
