230 WINE LAW Finally, product storage areas must be managed so as to guarantee the identification of batches and prevent any mixing or contamination with products or substances that do not comply with organic production standards. When operators handle organic, in-conversion or non-organic products in any combination and the organic or in-conversion products are stored in facilities where other agricultural or food products are also stored, they will have to comply with the following measures: a) keeping the organic, in-conversion or non-organic products separate from other agricultural or food products; b) guaranteeing the identification of shipments and avoiding mixtures or exchanges of organic, in-conversion and non-organic products; and c) applying the appropriate cleaning measures, the effectiveness of which must be verified before the storage of the organic or in-conversion products – the operators must keep records of these operations. 4.4. Authorisation of products and substances for use in organic production Article 24 establishes that the Commission may authorise certain products and substances for use in organic production. Furthermore, this article will include such authorised products and substances in restricted lists for the following purposes 35 : a) as active substances for use in phytosanitary products; b) as fertilisers, soil conditioners and nutrients; f) as cleaning and disinfection products for premises and facilities used for plant production, including storage on a farm; and g) as products for cleaning and disinfection in transformation and storage facilities. When a Member State considers that a product or substance should be added to or withdrawn from the lists of authorised products and substances indicated in article 24(1) and (2) or that the specifications for use indicated in the production standards should be modified, it shall be ensured that a dossier is officially sent to the Commission and the other Member States and is made public, subject to Union and national data protection legislation, setting out the 35 Only the measures whose purpose may be related to the production of organic wine are listed.
