PROMOTING THE WINE INDUSTRY UNDER FRENCH LAW 333 ARPP in French) have established a code of good practice 63 – its application is not mandatory, but it makes it possible to reinforce communication by professionals for the promotion of wine in France. Therefore, according to this code, it is strongly recommended that the following statement be included on all written media: “Alcohol abuse is dangerous to health and should be consumed in moderation”; it must be placed horizontally, in bold, in a colour that stands out against the background of the message; its size must be equal to 1/100 th of the sum of the height + width of the advertisement, with an offset from the edge of the advertisement twice the height of a letter; and it may also be accompanied by these symbols. When the promotional message is broadcast over the radio, it is advisable to say orally that “For the sake of your health, beware of alcohol abuse”. The inclusion of the health message does not apply to commercial circulars intended for people acting in a professional capacity or being the subject of nominative mailings, as well as posters, price lists, menus or items inside specialised points of sale. III.2. Authorised media Article L3323-2 of the Advertising Health Code exhaustively lists the media that can be used to promote wine: 63 ARPP’s alcohol recommendations, available in https://www.vinetsociete.fr/loi-evin-quelle-portee-en- 2019 ( French). Translation: “2 units of alcohol per day for women”; “3 units of alcohol per day for men”; “4 units for occasional consumption”; and “0 units of alcohol in high-risk situations + 1 day per week”.
