Wine Law
THE 2019 RUSSIAN LAW ON VITICULTURE AND WINEMAKING 501 4. CONCLUSION A new important player made its appearance on the wine world stage, and although it is still weak, it is decided to develop its enormous potential in a now irreversible process. Russia’s bid for a comeback as a global viticulture and winemaking competitor is elaborate, linear and in tune with a long term strategy of reaching stable results on internal and external markets. The steady increase of the country’s influence is reflected in the latest developments in the International Organisation of Vine and Wine. On 12 July 2021, the 19 th OIV General Assembly approved the adoption of the Russian language as the organisation’s sixth official language 55 , restoring a situation that had already existed until the end of the 20 th century 56 . In fact, the restoration is quite a part of the Russian phenomenon, being plainly perceptible already that studies on the new Russian role will draw more and more attention in order to explain and understand this fusion of traditions, industrial ground and scientific potential for an ancient land that is now paradoxically rediscovered. 55 Source : https://www.oiv.int/en/oiv-life/new-resolutions-new-presidency-new-official-language-amp- new-headquarters-on-the-horizon. 56 Source : http://vinodelrf.ru/news/russkiy-yazyk-vozvrashchaetsya-v-oiv.
