Still on the 19th edition of the Fiesta Internacional del Vino , the company Havana Club International S.A. presented products of the Campo Viejo brand, which are part of the portfolio of the French partner of that firm, Pernod Ricard. These are the Campo Viejo Tempranillo and Cava Brut Reserva wines, as well as Reserva and Gran Reserva, available in the domestic market. The growth of the wine culture in Cuba in the last decades is not only related to the tourist sector and the public initiatives for the import of wines and the organisation of events. Together with the aforementioned local production and marketing of artisanal wines, the role of the private sector (so-called self-employment) should be mentioned, which, since the end of the 1990s and during the last few years, has made notable progress in sectors such as the hotel and catering industry. The opening of Cuba to international tourism and the existence of numerous manifestations of individual or cooperative entrepreneurship express the potential of the private sector in Cuba also in the growth of wine culture. 4. Foreign Investment: Legislative Background As of 2011, Cuba has seen a process of increasing and updating its economic model. In April of that year, the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy were approved, generating a growing normative production aimed at making feasible the transformations proposed for the Cuban economic model. These guidelines were modified in 2016. As a consequence of these transformations, cooperatives in the non-agricultural sector have emerged, and regulations for the exercise of self-employment have been reinforced. In this context, it is necessary to strengthen the market and the role of the contract, in the formulation of a more efficient and sustainable model.
